Luogo Categoria: Highlights
The borgo probably dates back to the 8th century and is situated on a tufaceous spur.
Its historic centre teems with crossroads and small and suggestive squares.
Here are some of the principal landmarks:
- the Church of St. Mary of the assumption (Chiesa di S.Maria Assunta), which preserves a 1808 statue of Our Lady of Graces (Madonna delle Grazie), a 12th-13-century panel representing the Salvatore Benedicente (Salvator Mundi), a triptych of St. Terenzian, St. Rocco, and St. Sebastian (15th-16th century), a 1400s tabernacle;
- the Romanesque Church of St. Francis (Chiesa romanica di S. Francesco), with the marble sepulcher of Francesco and Nicola Anguillara, died in 1406-1408;
- the 1500s Duomo di S.Giovani, with its Romanesque tower bell rebuilt in the 1700s;
- Accoramboni Palace ( Palazzo Accoramboni), Capranica’s administrative building.
